Primus Animals Should Not Try To Act Like People - Vinyl
Primus
Contains a bonus DVD.
Primus includes: Les Claypool (vocals, bass); Larry Lalonde (guitar); Tim Alexander (drums).
Although CDs often include DVDs as a bonus, this unusual Primus release does the opposite by presenting a comprehensive DVD with an additional CD of five new songs. While the DVD collects all of the band's outlandish videos, along with live performances, interviews, short films, and more, the audio disc features reunion of the classic Primus lineup--bassist/vocalist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry "Ler" LaLonde, and long-absent drummer Tim "Herb" Alexander.
On this five-song outing, Alexander eases back into Primus mode, starting with the rhythmic rumble of "The Carpenter and the Dainty Bride." As on the trio's finest albums, Alexander's sparse-yet-tight drumming meshes perfectly with Claypool's insanely fluid bass lines and LaLonde's quirky, wiry guitar riffs. The punchy "Pilcher's Squad" details the true 1960s exploits of a London police officer prone to planting drug evidence on rock-star suspects, while "Mary the Ice Cube" is a dreamy, existential dirge, and "The Last Superpower aka Rapscallion" gallops along at an entrancing clip. "My Friend Fats" wraps the disc up with a weird ode to camaraderie, leaving Primus fans happy and eager for another full helping of the Les/Ler/Herb combo.
