It is often argued that U.K. punk pioneers the Damned were the first English punk band to issue a record, beating spiky-haired contemporaries the Sex Pistols, among others, when it came to actually getting themselves into a studio. Pure Punk: 1977-1982 focuses on the steps that took the Damned into the studio to begin with, collecting mostly live recordings and a few unreleased demos from their earliest days.
