This is a reissue of the FIRST Buck Owens album, recorded for Capitol in 1961. He'd yet to fully come into his own--the vocal influences of Ray Price and George Jones are easy to discern, and the Buckaroos' hard-driving twang and sturdy beat were yet-to-be. But the heart Owens puts into these songs--he wrote all but one--is singularly powerful and memorable. And this set includes three genuine country classics: "Under Your Spell Again," "Above and Beyond" and "Second Fiddle." To check out the beginnings of one of the best and most influential figures in country music, or just enjoy a fine, earthy, pop-free country album, this is well worth your time. A classic, anyway you look at it.
