This is the dub version of reggae crooner Gregory Isaacs's COOL RULER, one of his best albums and strikingly different in feeling than this imaginatively sinister reworking. Most dub relies on tricky effects with echo-predictable aural dropouts where an accentuated drum-and-bass might take the lead. By contrast, with its misterioso organ emerging from the mix, the haunting SLUM sounds like a dread zombie flick, set in an eerily depopulated Kingston of the mind.
